(This is all my personal opinion)
In all of the reading I have been doing and with a lot people that I know their biggest complaint about dating a gamer is that they game to much.
OK..I’m sorry but I don’t really feel that this becomes a problem overnight. Most true gamers have been gamers for a long time and were probably gaming when you met them. I understand relationships involve compromise but it seems that most people involved with a gamer that have this complaint consider it an all or nothing situation. How is that compromise?
If you truly care for this person you will realize that gaming is usually something they are very passionate about. In my group gaming goes beyond sitting on your couch. It’s a deep rooted link to childhood. I know for a lot of people in my generation the Nintendo was a huge part of childhood. I will never forget getting our Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) with Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt. We spent hours trying to jump on the top of the flag pole and trying to shoot the dog in Duck Hunt. This new wave of technology did bring my family together because even the adults wanted to “shoot the dog”.
In my world gaming involves collecting, going to conventions, social time with friends and creating your own gaming related YouTube show. I have embraced my significant gamers passion because I truly do care for him. I thought thats what relationships were about, embracing one another and accepting the quirky little things that make you well you. Maybe you yourself could find a game you enjoy playing and then that would give you more to talk about with your gamer and give him something that he can understand and take an educated interest in for you. If you find this is something you are unable to do then maybe your not the Zelda* to his Link**.
I want to hear your opinion, or your story/complaints about dating your significant gamer. I really want to get a good discussion going about this subject since it does seem to be the biggest complaint. Thank you.
* Princess Zelda is the name of a fictional character in The Legend of Zelda series of video games. She spends most of her time being kidnapped by Gannon to heroically be rescued by her hero Link.
**Link is the protagonist of Nintendo‘s The Legend of Zelda series. He spends his life constantly have to go through multiple dungeons to rescue the beautiful Princess Zelda.
